I was sent this article on Wednesday:
Welsh talent Racheal Rajah has battled thousands of other singers across the country and has made it through to compete in the National Grand Final of Open Mic UK!! Competing against other hopefuls across the UK in auditions and regional finals, Racheal will now go on to represent their area in the hope of walking away with an impressive management and recording contract and being crowned the UK’s Best on the Mic 2009.
The regional final saw an impressive performance from all of the acts as they competed on stage in a live head to head showcase in front of a capacity crowd and judging panel. Racheal gave an explosive performance singing ‘show me heaven’ and secured the top spot and she’s now set to fly the flag for Wales at the National Grand Final in Portsmouth on November 28th.
The battle for a place at the National Final was no easy task– over 8, 000 singers entered the competition, with auditions touring across 12 regions throughout the UK. Successful acts not only had to impress the judges at the auditions but also had to perform under pressure and wow hundreds of spectators at the live regional show.
Open Mic UK is the national talent competition which searches for the UK’s best singers, songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres who perform either covers or original material. The competition offers singers the opportunity to perform live in front of capacity crowds and judges from the music and entertainment industry. Travelling across the country, the competition’s aim is to find a potential recording artist who could top the UK charts.
The National Grand Final will be a showcase of the very best talent on the Mic from across the UK, with each act representing themselves and their region. The pressure is now on as they’ll have to impress both the audience, expert judges and celebrity guests in order to be named the winner of Open Mic UK 2009.
Chris Grayston, Events Director of Open Mic UK explains “The standard this year has been outstanding – there has been a great mix of pop, acoustic and rnb acts and a good balance of covers and original material. The Grand Finalists will really have to work hard ahead of the final and then pull out the performance of their lives in order to be crowned the overall winner – we’re in for a great final show.”
The overall winner of the competition will have the opportunity to record their album in professional studios with an industry vocal specialist, the potential of large investment for a single release and an aim to nationally chart. Thrust into the spotlight through print, radio and television media, the winner will also have the chance to tour across the UK and receive mass exposure.
Representing the best of this region’s talent, Racheal is hoping for all the regional support possible to be crowned the UK’s best Open Mic UK act. She said, “It was an amazing feeling to be called first for the finals. My family and friends cheered me on and I cannot wait for the finals! It has been a brilliant experience and so much fun!”
