Wheel Of Furnace May Turn Again

Posted by Llanrhystud Childminder On Friday, September 28, 2007 0 comments
Talks are taking place that could see the waterwheel at Furnace turn once again, making it a fully functional working tourist attraction.

Cadw responsible for the custodianship of many historic sights in Wales, have revealed plans to breath new life into Dyfi Furnace site.

A number of options are being considered including, getting the water wheel back in working order, also opening up the site for a number of open days. Currently visitors can only walk around the outside of the ancient furnace.

Dyfi Furnace was one of ten heritage sites chosen by Cadw in an exercise to gather evidence, with the aim to see how monuments fit within the local community, and how these key heritage sites can breather new life into communities.

Constructed around 1755 the charcoal-fired blast furnace was used to smelt iron ore. The huge waterwheel would of power large bellows, bring the charcoal up to a temperature within the furnace for the smelting process.

Years later the furnace was turned into a sawmill, the current water wheel was used to power the machinery when the sawmill was in operation.

Ceredigion Council's North Ceredigion Headquarters On Hold

Posted by Llanrhystud Childminder On Friday, September 28, 2007 0 comments
Following the decision to ditch Carillion National Building, the new headquarters in North Ceredgion are on hold.

With the hope of reducing the cost of construction the Council as seeking land less valuable else where.

The new building was to be built next the new Assembly Office in Parc-y-Llyn, the authority so far has had limited success in attracting a new developer, leaving the whole Aberystwyth project in the balance.

Posted by Llanrhystud Childminder On Monday, September 24, 2007 0 comments

A successful day at the first Welsh YouTube convention in Aberystwyth. Mid day the weather brought a little shower of rain, but nothing more. Afternoon it brightened up nicely, and although there was not a big turnout (I guess put of by the weather) those that did attend had a fun day, with some unexpected visitors.

A big thanks to the students that took part in the making of the video's, I hope you will all subscribe and start making your own movies and have some fun along the way.

Ynyslas Beach, Coastline And Its Sand Dunes

Posted by Llanrhystud Childminder On Tuesday, September 18, 2007 0 comments

It's been a bit of a miserable summer this year! Hopefully this video will bring back memories of sunny days spent on Ynyslas beach.

Ynyslas a National Nature Reserve at the mouth of the Afon Dyfi (River Dovey), on the shore of Cardigan Bay; in the county of Ceredigion, 241 from London by road.

Ynyslas sand dunes are thought to have been forming since the 13th Century. Dunes are formed when strong, dry winds from North West blow, bringing sand onshore from the sand bars which are located at the entrance to Dyfi estuary, when exposed at low water.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Ynyslas is a National Nature Reserve. Sand Dunes are extremely fragile and are under intense pressure from the large number of visitors they attract each year. You can minimise damage by walking on designated paths, to avoid unnecessary trampling of the vegetation.
