An extra £10m is to be
spent on flood defences following the devastating rains which caused
widespread flooding in mid Wales last summer a lot of which was around and about the Aberystwyth area. The monies are to be spent in 2013-15, but will the money spent in the Aberystwyth area be enough following the devastation to local homes and businesses?

Environment Minister John Griffiths said:
"We were already investing over £140m in flood and coastal erosion
risk management over the life of this assembly to reduce risk for over
7,000 properties. Despite severe reductions in its capital budget, the
Welsh government was spending an extra £10m on flood and coastal risk
management over 2013/14 to 2014/15, taking investment to more than£150m."

What are your memories of the flooding in June 2012?

Your thoughts and feedback about this post are always appreciated. The Royal Pier in Aberystwyth has been selected as one of the six finalists
in the 2012 Best Bar None Awards following its success in the Ceredigion County
Council scheme.

“BBN is a national award scheme
supported by the Home Office and aimed at promoting responsible management and
operation of alcohol licensed premises. It was piloted in Manchester in
2003 and found to improve standards in the night time economy, with premises
now competing to participate. It has since been adopted by 100 towns and cities
across the UK and is now being taken up internationally.

The aim of BBN is to reduce alcohol
related crime and disorder in a town centre by building a positive relationship
between the licensed trade, police and local authorities.”

The petition reads;

"We call on the National
Assembly for Wales to urge the Welsh Government to re-open the train
line from Carmarthen to Aberystwyth.

We believe this is vital
for the local communities and the Welsh economy as a whole as it will
allow the transition of people and services to areas which are otherwise
isolated. This will support the local economies and create a more fluid
connection between North and South Wales. At present the only rail
connections from North to South Wales must divert through England."

Would the reinstated line be usefull for you?

Use this link to add your name to the petition and tell us your thoughts below, can you remember travelling on this line before it was closed in 1965?

Charity launches local debt help guide for Ceredigion

Britain’s leading debt charity, the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS), has launched an online Debt Help Guide for the residents of Ceredigion.

http://www.cccs.co.uk/Services/Debtadvice/Localdebthelp/DebthelpguideCeredigion.aspx

The guide shows where to get free advice on housing, benefits and other money matters.

The Coalition’s plans to cut ½ million public sector jobs is set to exact a harder toll on areas like Ceredigion that are more reliant on the state for employment opportunities.

Ceredigion has a high percentage of its workforce employed in the public sector – a huge 42%. Many people living in this area will be worried about the possibility of a sudden dramatic loss of income.

This guide will be a useful resource for people in Ceredigion who are worried about their finances and looking for help and advice.
A question I have been asked 'Does Borth In Wales Have A Train Station'

Infact Borth does have a railway station which is managed by Arriva Trains Wales, but if your looking to buy train tickets from a ticket office you will have to look elsewhere, its always advisable to buy tickets in advance as they will work out cheaper, Aberystwyth Railway Station has a ticket office where you can purchase tickets, also their are many online providers. If your have to travel without buying a ticket in advance you can always purchase a ticket from the conductor on board the train.
All you need you to do is to use a little imagination and take a quick pic of something creative or funny involving food. Aberystwyth Job Centre is located in Alexandra Road opposite the main bus stop in town, the three storey building sites on the former Cambrian Foundry established by George Green in 1850, throughout its working life the foundry produced specialised equipment for the metal mining industry. Gutted by fire 1908 it never resumed production. In 1994 the last surviving foundry building was demolished.

Do you know where in Aberystwyth you can still see metal work produced by the foundry? Enter you e-mail address to 'Sign Up! This picture of 'Aberystwyth Job Centre' taken on a spring afternoon – more precisely, it was March 17, 2008 and the time was 1.39pm GMT. My Canon PowerShot G9’s exposure dial was set to the Aperture f/3.2 setting and that the exposure took 0.001 sec, 1/1600th of a second, the camera was handheld. Other settings include the white balance that was set to “Auto“, being a sunny day – this setting helped me obtain that nice color saturation, which I later enhanced on my computer, using software that came with the Canon G9 camera.
