IBERS is seeking to appoint a Chair in the field of Quantitative Genetics to develop and lead a world class programme of research focusing on the use of modern genomics methods particularly focusing on the genetics and breeding of outbreeding species. The Institute has internationally recognised expertise in crop genetics and genomics, with an emphasis on perennial outbreeders and attracts substantial research council and commercial funding. Fundamental research in this area underpins long standing and commercially successful breeding programmes for forage grasses and legumes and oats, with a range of breeding related activities in other crops. The post holder will lead an innovative quantitative genetics research programme which will strengthen state of the art breeding programmes delivering public good to Wales, the UK and beyond. There is also a need to educate the next generation of crop scientists and plant breeders to address the challenges of food security, climate change mitigation and adaptation.
