Motorcycles are to be banned from Aberystwyth promenade in a renewed crackdown on parking in the area.
Cars have faced parking restrictions for years but a blind eye has been turned as motorcyclists boost the tourist trade.

Why are you banning bikes from the prom. There is never any trouble, people come and talk and admire the bikes. We spend a considerable amount of money in your local shops and i travel over 300 miles to meet some friends there every year.
As a motorcyclist who visits Aberyswyth A few times every summer I think you are making a foolish mistake by banning motorcyclists from the promenade. This will only penalise local businesses who surely must be experiencing the financial downturn already. There are other towns on the Mid Wales coastline...
I have been a continual motorcyclist for 31 years.
Growing up in Borth & moving to Kent in 1994.
I always enjoyed visiting Aberystwyth with many friends over the years.
This year will see the 3rd Annual meeting in Rhayader of the Mild Hogs UK club, who all ride the popular Honda C90 Motorcycle, recognised as the BEST motorcycle in the world, with a production count during 50 years of over 60 MILLION machines made.
Our run out, or Bimble as we call it, has ended in a visit to the promenade in Aberystwyth, to stop for food & drink from Mr Days splendid establishment.
After hearing that motors have been BANNED, we will now be going to Borth to boost the coffers of the Borth retailers.
Once the ban has been removed, we will return
Paul Fuzz Fereday.
I have been dismayed to hear that the Council have taken the decision to ban motorcycles from the Promenard at Aberystwyth.
In common previous years the members of the Honda Cub90 group were planning our annual ride-out to this venue in the Summer.
As our members travel large distances (several hundred miles) on tiny Honda C90 motorcycles to join in this annual event is has a rather large impact on our organisation.
If true we shall need to arrange a different venue, sadly the damage may already be done with this news/rumour being out in the online world and rather than run the risk of being unwelcome we may need to arrange an alternate venue.
When we visit the seafront at Aberystwyth we park the bikes there and patronise the local shops, businesses and services.
It's good to hear that in these 'credit crunch' times Aberystwyth is doing so well it can afford to turn away business.
Just writing to let you know my thoughts regarding the moorcycle ban on the prom. Every year 30-40 riders from the honda c90 [ stepthru ] club meet in near by rhayeder for the weekend. Our ride out on the sat always call at aberystwyth on the sea front where we stop for dinner. The talk now from members is to boycot aberystwyth and take our money else where. This will result in business loss for local shopowners. The average age for our club is 50ish. As your town is the capital of mid wales should,nt you be encouring people in to help boost local business intrests in these difficult times.
I am rather concerned at the short sighted attitude the council are adopting if the reports I have read are correct on banning motorcycles from the small area they park on the Prom. These well behaved people come many miles to visit Aberystwyth and while in town spend a considerable amount a money in the local shops and cafes, Stopping them from parking where do will only send this income elsewhere. Perhaps a party of councillors could be sent on an educational visit to places like Stratford on Avon and Matlock to see just how they should approach the matter
There is no ban on bikes parking up on Aberystwyth Promenade. The truth is that such a recommendation was made some time ago by the 'Prom Forum' to Ceredigion County Council. The Prom Forum is a relatively small group of people, and can only advocate but has no authority to implement. Ceredigion County Council have not made a decision yet, and as far as we are aware do not wish to ban bikes from the prom. The vast majority of people in Aberystwyth welcome the motorcyclists to the seafront, seeing them now as a part of the character of the town, bringing vibrancy to Aberystwyth. The weekend before last over 400 signatures were gathered on the promenade from people very much in favour of the motorcyclists. Interestingly the overwhelming majority of those were not riders themselves. To address the health & safety issues that the Prom Forum have cited, Aberystwyth & District Motorcycle Action Group have pinned up a brief and polite notice at PD's Diner, and have been discussing the issue with riders. The point being to ensure riders, as they almost always do, arrive, park-up, and leave considerately. This way we can be seen to be taking care of things ourselves. The great thing is the number of very supportive comments received from elderly people when questioned about the bikes on the paved area ~ many of these folk come down to the prom just to see the bikes and riders. So, please do come to Aber' and enjoy the roads on the way here !
Every summer a large ugly fairground ride is parked on the prom obscuring the view of the sea as you sit outside the cafe. It also blares out raucous music. I've hardly ever seen anyone use it and I am in Aberystwyth every Sunday(and am a Ceredigion resident). Compare this to the huge interest shown by all age groups in the hundreds of bikes that come and go quietly, riden by well behaved money spending people who enhance the view rather than obscure it.
Think again Prom Forum !
