We are newcomers to the area but feel strongly that it would be extremely unwise to take away from the independent character of Aberystwyth, especially its old town and approaches to it - there are too many towns that are clones!! We have come from Bristol where they have built a monstrous shopping precinct which overshadows the streets and is oppressive and, probably given today's financial climate, likely to become an expensive white elephant before too long. There is space outside for larger stores and saying that smaller stores could fit in is not good enough as they would lose their "shop window" aspect.
