Aber Life of Brian Screening After 30 Year Ban

Posted by Llanrhystud Childminder On Saturday, February 28, 2009
I found this fascinating article today:

Two Monty Python stars will be at the first screening of their classic film Life of Brian in a town where it has not been seen since a ban 30 years ago.

Terry Jones and Michael Palin will join Aberystwyth mayor Sue Jones-Davies - who also starred in the 1979 film - at a charity showing on 28 March.

  1. toffee girl Said,

Thought you might be interested in my story regarding The Life of Brian. On Thursday, 18th March 1982 (3 years after it is claimed it was last shown in Aberystwyth) I, along with my father went to The Commodore Cinema in Aberystwyth to watch this film. I can recall this very vividly as in the car park next to the cinema, prior to the film, my father had an angina attack (which actually turned out to be a heart attack) and we sat through the film with him in agony. There was an interval after the film and it was to be followed by The Holy Grail but we didn't stay for that as he had to be taken to hospital. I have kept a 5 year diary for many years and have this recorded in the diary for that date. One acedote to this is that he was a retired Minister of Religion but loved that wicked Monty Python humour and the scandal and perceived blasphemous content of the film was nothing to do with his heart attack. As I said, this occurred in the car park prior to actually going into the cinema and as we didn't realise the serious of his condition we stayed for the duration of the film, which of course he could not appreciate but only due to his condition at the time!
