Professor Powell, who takes up his new role in September, has been at National Institute of Agricultural Botany since 2005, and has positioned Niab at the forefront of tackling major global food supply and climate change issues based on innovative exploitation of plant genetic resources.
Institute for Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (Ibers) is being created through a merger of the Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research (IGER) and Aberystwyth University.
