From time to time Aberystwyth harbour silts up, the River Rheidol which runs through and maintains a constant flow of fresh water to the sea also brings with it tonnes of mud silt and shingle from up stream, which is deposited in the harbour.
This picture shows large diggers and dumper trucks dredging the harbour floor and removing the waste. The silt is then dumped over the sea wall not far from the harbour mouth.
Now i'm no expert in water movment, but what is stopping the tide bringing the silt back into the harbour? If anyone has any idea's or suggestions, lets hear them, post comments below.
