Petition To Re-open the Aberystwyth to Carmarthen Railway Line

Posted by Llanrhystud Childminder On Tuesday, October 02, 2012 1 comments
A petition to re-open the Aberystwyth to Carmarthen railway line has been launched by Mark Worrall from Cadiff University. 1000 people are needed to sign this petition so that the Welsh Government will consider it.

The petition reads;

"We call on the National Assembly for Wales to urge the Welsh Government to re-open the train line from Carmarthen to Aberystwyth.

We believe this is vital for the local communities and the Welsh economy as a whole as it will allow the transition of people and services to areas which are otherwise isolated. This will support the local economies and create a more fluid connection between North and South Wales. At present the only rail connections from North to South Wales must divert through England."

Would the reinstated line be usefull for you?

Use this link to add your name to the petition and tell us your thoughts below, can you remember travelling on this line before it was closed in 1965?

Cambrian Foundry Metal Work

As posted in the 'Aberystwyth Job Centre' posts I asked if you knew where you would find metal work produced by the Cambrian Foundry, today? This photo of Aberystwyth Station Platform shows metal colums and supporting brackets produced by the Foundry some 100 years ago, now covered by netting to prevent birds getting into the roof space.

What interesting facts do you know about Aberystwyth Train Station?

I found this fascinating article today:

PLANS by Arriva Trains to put on a `spoiler’ service between Aberystwyth and London could put the fledgling Wrexham and Shropshire service into London out of business says Owen Paterson MP.

Journeys From Shrewsbury To Aberystwyth Take Eight Minutes Longer

I found this fascinating article today:

A train operator has won a national award for an initiative that made travel through Mid Wales slower.

Journeys from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth now take about eight minutes longer than they did before Arriva Trains Wales (ATW) changed the timetable in December.

Richard Branson’s Firm Virgin Wants Extra Return Services

Posted by Llanrhystud Childminder On Tuesday, April 21, 2009 0 comments
I found this fascinating article today:
Virgin Trains and Arriva Trains Wales (ATW) want to run new services along stretches of the same route to London.

Richard Branson’s firm Virgin wants to run an extra two return services per day between Wrexham and London, in addition to the one it already operates on the route.

ATW also wants to run two new services along part of the same route.

Like the Wrexham and Shropshire service, these would call at Shrewsbury, but begin at Aberystwyth, instead of in North Wales.
